Are You Ready to Quit Your Day Job?

"Take this job and shove it!" The majority of wage earners have uttered, or at least thought it, during their careers. Before you quit your day job to launch your own business, you need to seriously consider some of the long-range issues that will confront you. You'll need to be armed with the knowledge it takes to successfully launch and lead a business. It's true that business is war, so make sure you're prepared to do battle.

  • Develop a network of professionals on whom you can rely, including lawyers, accountants and human resources experts. You'll want to interview each party to ensure they have the knowledge needed to give you the best advice and counsel. Ask for recommendations from other successful entrepreneurs in your area. These professionals are key to charting a path that will keep you clear of minefields and ensuring that you are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations - local, state and federal.
  • Establish a relationship with a business-minded mentor to help guide you through major business decisions and situations. Leadership is more than just following advice; it's developed through experience. Get your hands on every genuine business and leadership book you can find, like Lead the Charge to Business Success. Make sure the author has a track record of success. You'll learn about different business issues and gain new perspectives that can shape the way you make your decisions.

When the time has come to take charge of your own business, you'll have the knowledge, skills and resources that will help you create and establish a strong business that will not only survive, but triumph, in today's battlefield.
